Network
Connection Arrangements

1. Access to University Network
Once you have plugged in your machine to
the power and turned it on, connect with a network cable to the IT socket in
your room.
(cables available for purchase from the
office - $10)
This
should result in you observing a link light on most machines where the network cable
is inserted in your computer.
2. Access the Internet
You will need to ensure that your proxy
settings are correct within your browser.
(These instructions are for Internet
Explorer).
To check this, click Tools then Internet Options. On the Connections tab click the LAN settings button.
Ensure that only Use automatic configuration script is
ticked and that the Address field contains http://autoproxy.utas.edu.au/cgi-bin/proxy
Click OK
You should now be able to access any web
pages on the University website.
To access the internet outside of the university,
all residents will need to ensure that they have the correct Starnet user name and password (supplied in person only by the College office )
Click here to download the Starnet
software relevant to your operating system.
*Mac users select the option web based logon
facility.
3. College Library
UTas computers in the College library are
accessed using your Novell password
as supplied by UTas.
